On November 26th, 2014 the City of Vancouver approved the rezoning application to Rize Alliance to develop the the block of 285 East 10th Avenue. This will mean more big changes coming for that area of Main Street. This area of Mount Pleasant is still yet to change with a lot of autobody shops and cheap furntiure outlets.
It took a while for this zoning to go through. There are a lot of folks that don't want the quaint, cultural aspect of Main street to change while others are paving the way for new modern additions.
“We’d like to thank the community for their continued support during this process,” says Will Lin, CEO of Rize Alliance Properties. “We’re looking forward to the groundbreaking in 2015, and providing new homes for people wanting to live in Mount Pleasant.”
The new building will be known and the Independent and you can see all the signage at the corner of Kingsway and Broadway. Construction will begin in 2015 and no date yet when it's slated to be finished.
Other recent develops that are still pending are at the corner of Main and 11th where the Rumpus Room was for decades and will be missed. This is the cultural aspects developers need to be aware of when going too modern.
